What age can my baby start swimming?
Babies can start swimming from a very young age, we start our classes at 3 months, this gives parents a chance to get to know their babies and to be confident holding them in the water.
How can I get my baby ready for lessons?
One of the best ways to get your baby ready for lessons is to take them in the bath or shower with you and have some fun splashing , singing and laughing ! Babies love familiarity so getting them use to the water beforehand showing them that it is a fun and safe environment. We also suggest taking them in your pool or community pool, this will help them experience the larger environment , with all the new sensory elements that a large pool brings.
What does my baby need to wear?
All babies and toddlers in our classes must wear swim nappies. We strongly suggest using washable swim nappies – as you don’t want to be the ‘Party pooper’ of your class!!!!
We recommend using ‘popin’ swim nappies that we can supply or the ‘Neoprene style’ nappy with a liner underneath. If you are using just disposable swim nappies, then you MUST wear a tight costume over the top to hold these on, as they can come loose and leak.
What should you bring to the lesson?
Apart from your costumes and your babies swim nappies we suggest:
-A Changing mat, so you can change your baby on a sun bed by the pool.
-Towels for you and your baby.
-A sun hat of any description that is ok to get wet!
How warm are our pools?
All the pools we use are temperature controlled pools, this means that the pools are kept at approx 30 degrees all year round, chilled in the summer months and heated in the winter.
When should I arrive for my lesson?
You need to be ready to swim on the edge or in the pool for the start time of your class. So we suggest arriving about 10 minutes before the class so you are not rushing to get into the water. Take your time to get your baby read, as we want you both to feel calm entering the water. If you are rushing, your baby may pick up on any stress you are feeling, which may make your baby unsettled.
How long are the lessons?
Each lesson is a busy 30 minutes! We do a lot of activities in 30 minutes so your baby will be tired at the end of the lesson.
My child has additional needs, can I still join the class?
We pride ourselves on being an inclusive swim school. Please call or email us so we can discuss any additional need your child may have so we can tailor our teaching to suit your child. You can email us on info@BabySplashdubai.com or call 050 3549142
Can both parents attend?
Yes of course!! It’s important that you are both involved. Due to space we allow one parent in the water and one parent can sit on the side. You can always swap round each week.
How long will it take my baby to learn to swim?
Learning to swim takes time and practice, please remember it is a life long skill that is worth taking time, money and patients. Every child is different, some children acquire skills quicker than others, there are so many different reasons that it is impossible to say how long it will take, it always takes times as its very physical and all children learn through repeating activities, so the earlier they start and the more time they spend in the water, the quicker they will learn to swim.
My child has a fear of water, can they overcome it?
Our classes are child led and gentle and fun. We will not force a child to do anything if they are scared or reluctant. Instead we will gently encourage and suggest ways to work with you and your child to get them to enjoy water in a fun and calm way.
I can’t swim, does that matter?
We have lots of parents in our classes that cannot swim, or are uncomfortable in water. The water is always shallow enough to stand, and as long as you are confident holding and walking in the water with your baby your be fine. We do suggest that make your instructor aware, so that they can help you.
What if my baby is sick?
Please do not bring your baby to classes if your baby is sick.
If you baby has an on going sickness and is not able to go into the water, please email us with the details. We do not offer make up classes if you miss a lesson, however, if your child has been sick, we will always look at our registers to see if we have an available space in a alternate, suitable age class for your child to attend.
Please note this is not guaranteed.
